The notepad program opens blank without a file name. Maybe a log file or something is attempting to be created by a program, possibly malware. Notepad started opening at random for me too on my Toshiba r630 running Win 7 64bit, I started looking at what i was doing when it opened - im not sure if this happens on other laptops but if you but three fingers on the mouse touchpad, notepad will open. I also experimented with my touchpad, and this is what I found (using my right hand)1) put middle and ring finger on the touchpad2) put index finger down and swipe it to the left. it started off popping up in the foreground, but now it's in the background.

And 3 times a year is different from 3 times in a minute. And can you tell WHEN this happens: when you boot, or when you open Internet Explorer, or when you save a Word document or just randomly? And can you tell if it opens with an existing file open (if so, what file) or with a new file open or with no file open? What I meant was 3 to 10 times within a day, what do you think ? I thought of the keystroke thing too, but can't figure out a combination of keys thats making it happen.

In this case I wonder if shortcut keys have been assigned to a shortcut to Great Thanks Kees Rgrds I have a 64-Bit Windows 7 running Studio XPS 1640 by Dell and it is doing this same thing. Clearly, some program on the computer is asking notepad to open.
